Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Soldiers Table

Since the launch of Campaign 4, fresh DM the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a colorful mix of personalities, and a gripping narrative including angels, fiends, and dark forces growing in influence within the urban setting.

Warning: Key plot points for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 lie ahead.

The Soldiers Table Unveiled

The latest chapter ended with a dramatic pause and revealed the initial group of heroes who will separate from the primary party to begin their independent quest, apart from the additional parties.

The Soldiers table includes the determined fighter (portrayed by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (Laura), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), the cleric (the player), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).

Dividing the Cast

Given a large ensemble, it was clear from the outset that keeping everyone at a single group would be unworkable.

That’s why, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Introduction, intertwining the characters’ stories before branching into three smaller tables: Warriors, Strategists, and Explorers.

Characteristics of the Soldiers Table

As described by the DM, the Soldiers table is for players who prefer a traditionally charged battle-oriented narrative style where diplomatic options are scarce.

At first glance, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander might appear out of place, but the developments of the third episode show why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the combat party.

Motivations for Departure

For one thing, the team knows exactly where to head next after a intense opening clash with the enemy group.

Casimir of the deceased character—whose passing kicked off the story’s plot—manipulated the foes for his selfish purposes, entering the secret base, striking the rogue, and taking all the powerful objects to sell off.

The traitor then paid off his obligations and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, above the city, with Cyd hot on his heels.

Character Drivers

Secondly, each character has a individual motive to exit the metropolitan area:

  • Thimble, as the close ally and closest confidant, seeks retribution.
  • The knowledgeable figure has experience in the region and warns that it is a hostile location.
  • Tyranny and Wicander, having defied his relatives’ demands to execute the target and instead saved him, have no other options.
  • Yet, their status as prominent individuals in the influential clan could assist the group reach areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Additionally, Teor vowed a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his deliverance and will now accompany him anywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

Finally, all of them are wanted by the rulers that govern Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making remaining behind no longer safe:

  • The agile adventurer and The hero are notorious outlaws.
  • Tyranny and Wicander turned against House Halovar and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
  • The fighter is wanted dead by the clan.

This means them no alternative but to head to the remote area in search of the antagonist.

Future Episodes

Based on the latest episode’s Cooldown, we find out that the warrior group will be absent the following episode, leaving the other eight participants to round up the Explorers and Strategists groups.

Audiences can anticipate learning which characters will be where in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, released on next week.
